We were at a yoga lesson with Lea and it was such a great course. The Synergy Yoga was exactly what we needed — one of our favourite flows ever. The studio is new and super clean.

I came to MiRA for a mat Pilates class and an ice bath and they were both great. The teacher was super encouraging and created a class for all levels of experience. Found it challenging in the best ways.

This is a beautiful studio. Right in the heart of Mirissa. I went for the 9am Sunday yoga session for my birthday — I couldn’t recommend it enough. The teacher was fabulous.

All mixed level, all sixty minutes, all in the air-conditioned studio. What is on today is in the schedule below.

Vinyasa

Breath-led sequences that build heat gradually. Sun salutations, standing poses, a strong finish.

What to expect

One hour of yoga, start to finish.

Never rolled out a mat, or practised in a dozen countries? Every class is mixed level, and nothing here moves faster than you do.

The town is small enough to walk between the beach, the studio, and the café. That proximity is part of the programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common
questions.

What style of yoga do you teach?

Vinyasa is the daily class — movement linked to breath, building heat, mixed level with modifications for every posture. Hatha runs on some days depending on who is teaching, holding postures longer with more attention to alignment. A gentler Slow Flow runs Tuesday afternoon and Thursday and Sunday evening. The live schedule shows what is on.

I have never done yoga before. Can I join?

Yes. Every class is mixed level and every posture has a beginner option. Tell the instructor before you start and they will offer modifications as the class goes.

How much is a yoga class in Mirissa?

A single yoga class is $10, with no membership and no account needed. Class packs bring the per-class price down, and guests staying with us get 25% off. Current passes are listed when you book at bookwhen.com/miramirissa.

Do I need to book, or can I walk in?

Yoga classes take walk-ins if there is space, but booking is safer in high season and takes a minute at bookwhen.com/miramirissa. Reformer Pilates must always be prebooked, as spaces are limited by the number of machines. You can also WhatsApp us on +94 78 791 8553.

How long is a yoga class?

Sixty minutes. Arrive five to ten minutes early to settle in, roll out a mat and let the instructor know about anything they should work around.

Do I need to bring a yoga mat?

No. Mats, blocks, straps and bolsters are all here. Bring yourself, comfortable clothes and water.

What should I wear to a yoga class?

Anything you can move and stretch in. Leggings or shorts and a top that stays put when you fold forward. Yoga is practised barefoot, so no shoes needed. It is humid here, so bring a small towel if you tend to sweat.

Is the studio hot?

We do not run hot yoga. The studio has both air conditioning and fans, so the room stays comfortable even in the middle of the day. Sri Lanka is humid year-round, so you will still work up a sweat in a Vinyasa class, but you will not be practising in deliberate heat.

Where is the yoga studio in Mirissa?

On the main road in Mirissa, about a four-minute walk from the beach. The studio is a large space on the third floor, reached by stairs, so let us know in advance if that is difficult and we will help. Message us on WhatsApp for the exact pin.

Can I come to a class on my own?

Most people do. Classes are a mix of travellers, long-stay guests and people living in Mirissa, and turning up alone is completely normal. It is one of the easier ways to meet people here.

Do in-house guests get a discount?

Yes. Guests staying with us get 25% off all classes. Your code is in your welcome email, or just mention it when you book.

What is the best time of year to visit Mirissa for yoga?

December through April is the dry season, with calm seas and settled weather. Classes run year-round, though, and the shoulder months are quieter if you would rather practise in a smaller group.

Can I practise yoga if I have an injury?

Usually yes, with modifications, but tell the instructor before the class starts rather than during it. If you have a recent spinal injury, acute joint inflammation or uncontrolled high blood pressure, check with your doctor first.

Are classes suitable for children?

Our classes are designed for ages 16 and up. Get in touch if you are travelling with someone younger and we will see what we can arrange.
